About Us

Starting in 2015 Gene Willhelm one of the founding members began the Gene and Johanne Willhelm Hog Island Student Scholarship.  The scholarship awards fully paid trips to Hog Island in Maine.  Brendyn Baptise was the first recipient.  All recipients of the scholarships are to present a 45 minute presentation of their experiences at the December Meeting.  This is a preview of the first presentation.
Hello fellow birders! My name is Brendyn Baptiste, and I am an avid birdwatcher. I began birdwatching when I was six years old, and from then on I have been hooked. I can identify nearly all eastern North American birds by sight and sound. I also have over 250 species on my life list, and it is still growing. Since June 2015, I have been the Elk county compiler for Pennsylvania Birds quarter journal Pennsylvania Birds. Most of my birding in done in northwestern Pennsylvania, but I occasionally do travel abroad. In June 2015, I was awarded the Gene & Joanne Wilhelm Scholarship to travel to Hog Island in Maine for the Hog Island Audubon Camp for Teens. While there, I was able to visit an Atlantic Puffin breeding colony. You can read about my trip to Maine and watch my video on the home page.

My page focuses mainly on birding on birding in northwestern Pennsylvania (Butler, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Forest, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Potter, Venango, & Warren counties), but occasionally beyond. On this site, you can view what birds are being seen in the region, and even upload your own checklists and photos. You can also view places to go birding, a full checklist of birds of NW PA, and even shop for birding supplies. This and much more is just a click away.

If you have any questions regarding the website or if you have a question on a bird, just email me at brendynbaptiste@yahoo.com.
